- Drop (length) is only limited to the weight of the blind. Over 4.5-5.0 square metres will need better quality roller or the blind may bow
- Some fabrics can be “railroaded” which means they can be turned on their side and made a bigger width
- Be careful choosing railroading as an option, as some fabrics don’t railroad well and may cup on the sides
- Some manufacturers will make a railroaded blind for you, but they may not give you any warranty again it –always check!
BUT is it total block out?
There will always be slight gap on either side where the blind fits within the frame, possibly up to 4-5mm. This is because the pin part of the roller blind cannot be exactly flush up again the frame or it won’t spin. If this small gap bothers you, you may want to try making the blind “Face Fit” which means it sits on the outside of the window frame. Another alternative is to put curtains on either side of the window to frame the blind.
Alternatively you could get a blockout blind called a “channel blind”. It has blockout fabric to darken the room, and the blind is within a headbox and side chanels to close up the gaps around it. This will give you a completely dark room. Ideal for shift-workers bedrooms. These are also great to be motorised.
